From our archive, exclusively for you, we are publishing sketches of railway bridges on the Brčko – Banovići, Bosanska Poljana – Lukavac, and Poljana – Tuzla lines. The bridge sketches were created by the construction service of JDŽ – Vinkovci Directorate. These sketches date from 1950 and 1951.
The railway bridges on the mentioned routes were built during the construction of the Youth Railway Brčko – Banovići and upon the construction of the standard gauge Dobe – Tuzla railway. The construction of the standard gauge Brčko – Banovići railway lasted 190 days, from May 1, 1946, and was opened to traffic on November 7 of the same year. The Dobe – Tuzla railway works began at the end of 1947, and the railway was put into operation on March 28, 1951.
On the Brčko – Banovići section of the railroad, data from numerous archives available to us, as well as information from electronic media (Wikipedia, open encyclopedias, etc.), state that 22 bridges were built with a total length of 455 meters. However, a review of available sketches indicates that 24 bridges were constructed, with a total length of 562.80 meters. We do not doubt the initial data (22 bridges), but we call on everyone to investigate their research and challenge any possible error, ultimately leading to an accurate final figure that we can accept as definitive.
For this occasion, we created a table arranged according to sketches (you can view the sketches in the gallery), and by reviewing it, we can arrive at the final result. Additionally, the sketches include the kilometer markings of the location of the built bridge according to the distance from the Vinkovci station.
