
We are publishing sketches of tunnels along the narrow-gauge railway route Gabela – Ploče from 1955 as a rare document from our archive.
During the review of the archival material, we noted the following data: The total number of tunnels is 6, all tunnels have a height ranging from 4.7 to 4.8 meters. The longest tunnel is No. 2 (Komin – Rogotin), measuring 190.50 meters, and the shortest is No. 4 (Rogotin – Ploče), measuring 54.33 meters. The greatest incline is on the section (Komin – Rogotin), with a gradient of 2.5 ‰.
On the construction of the railway, history
Uzana Gabela – Ploče Railway began construction in 1939 and was opened for traffic on November 25, 1942. It was discontinued on November 30, 1966. Starting from December 1, 1966, a standard-gauge railway line connecting Sarajevo – Ploče – Sarajevo was put into operation.
