From history:
The route of the standard gauge line Modriča – Gradačac is 14.495 km long and was put into operation on April 27, 1951. The track was built through a labor campaign modeled after the construction of the Brčko-Banovići railway. Construction began on May 3, 1950, and took about a year, so that the first train from the direction of Modriča arrived at the newly built station on April 27, 1951.
In the late 1980s, the passenger transport route slowly lost (except freight) its significance, so that starting from the new train timetable for 1986/87, passenger traffic was no longer planned but only “as needed,” during national celebrations or events of regional importance for the Gradačac area. Since 1992, no trains have operated on the line. The “Spatial Plan of the Municipality of Gradačac 2008 – 2028,” in the section “Railway Traffic,” states: “The potential revitalization of the former railway line Gradačac – Modriča is doubtful from an economic standpoint… The basic development concept for railway traffic in the Spatial Foundations of the Spatial Plan of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina does not foresee the possibility of revitalizing the railway line Gradačac – Modriča.”
