From history:
The route of the standard gauge railway line Vinkovci – Brčko measures 52 km + 494. The railway from Vinkovci to the Save River was put into operation on October 29, 1886, and with the construction of the railway bridge over the Sava in 1894, official railway traffic was established along the entire section. A direct railway connection to the Tuzla economic basin, and thus the southern corridor (Vrpolje – Dobo – Sarajevo – Ploče), was achieved by building the Brčko – Banovići railway in 1946. Construction of the railway lasted 190 days, from May 1, 1946, to November 7 of the same year.
The length of the railway from Gunja Station (where construction also began) to Bosanska Poljana is 65.909 km, and from Bosanska Poljana to Banovići is 22.684 km, totaling 88.593 km.
Since this railway route connects two regions, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the segment from Vinkovci to kilometer 50.872 (Gunja Station) belongs to Croatia, followed by a railway bridge 646 meters long and the Brčko station, which belongs to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Brčko station, via railway border demarcation, belongs to the Railways of Republika Srpska and manages 6 kilometers of track, while further along, the railway falls under the jurisdiction of the Railway of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The train traction unit in Brčko is part of the Doboj traction section, providing personnel for shunting work in the Brčko area and for operating trains on the Doboj – Brčko route.
