From the history of building standard gauge tracks with a width of 1.435 mm
Regular railway traffic between Vienna, Zagreb, and Sisak was established in 1862. The Sisak – Sunja – (Volinja) Dobrljin line was opened for traffic on April 10, 1882, from the Croatian side. Regarding the Bosnian side, the standard gauge line Dobrljin – Banja Luka was built and put into operation in December 1872, but by the end of 1875, it was discontinued for traffic.
Following the Berlin Congress of 1878, Bosnia and Herzegovina came under Austro-Hungarian rule. After the reconstruction and repair of the existing railway, railway traffic between Banja Luka and Prijedor was established on December 1, 1878, and extended to Dobrljin by March 24, 1879.
The first Bosnian-Herzegovinian railway line Banja Luka-Dobrljin received the long-awaited connection to the Austro-Hungarian railways, so the Banja Luka – Vienna and towards Budapest lines were put into operation on April 10, 1882.
