We are publishing a brief overview of the economic, social, cultural, and national role of the railway in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period before the construction of the railway line during the Formation of the State (under the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy), then from the Unification (Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, later Yugoslavia) up to the Regulation of July 10, 1936, and the construction of the railway provided for in the Regulation of July 10, 1936.
Among other things, you can learn which main narrow-gauge railways (0.76 m) were in operation during that period, including the main route Bosanski Brod – Sarajevo and the connected branch lines: Doboj – Simin Han with the branch line Karanovac – Gračanica; Usora – Pribinići; Zavidovići – Han Pijesak; Lašva – Jajce with the branch line Donji Vakuf – Bugojno; Kakanj – Zgošča; Podlugovi – Vareš; and the Semizovac – Ivančići railway. The Metković – Sarajevo line with the Gabela – Dubrovnik connection, along with branches Hum – Trebinje and Uskoplje – Zelenika. The main Sarajevo – Vardište route with the constructed branch Međeđa – Uvac. The Prijedor – Srnetica – Knin line with the connected forest railway Srnetica – Jajce, owned by Ota Štajbajs, and later the company „Šipad,“ etc.
