In the archive, I possess a very interesting manual published by the Association of Journalists of the People’s Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, titled “My Travel Companion,” issued by the Printing Plant “Oslobođenje” from Sarajevo, in 1950. “Every worker of our socialist homeland today has the opportunity to take advantage of their paid annual leave in the most beautiful parts of the country. This right, guaranteed by our Constitution, is used today by several million workers…” — this quote serves as the opening of this manual. It then lists holiday resorts (“Vaso Miskin Crni” Crepoljsko, “May 1st” Bistričak, Ponikve near Vareš, “Pavle Goranin” Jahorina, “Radojka Lakić” in Pale, etc.). Organizing trips, companies such as “Putnik” operate hotels and resorts where privileges are granted to: union members, members of the Yugoslav Army, the People’s Militia, and members of peasant cooperatives. Additionally, the section about “The Summer Home in Gradac on the Sea” states: The house has good water, lighting, a library, a radio, a cinema, and a piano. Or, if a mother with children stays in the train station waiting room, she will be timely informed of the train’s arrival by the duty officer of the AFŽ (Women’s Antifascist Front). The manual also advises against carrying cash; it is more practical to deposit money in the National Bank of FNRJ and withdraw it at any local post office. Within the manual, you can find train timetables—for example, from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik, Herceg Novi-Zelenika, Kardeljevo (Ploče), Titograd, Jajce, Foča, Tuzla, and other destinations—bus routes throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as schedules for maritime and air transportation.
