I am publishing a booklet from 1935, printed by the Yugoslav State Railway.
Considering that railway traffic and the locomotive fleet increased in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, the fleet became larger and more diverse because various constructions, types, and series from Austrian, Hungarian, German, and other railways were mixed. According to some data, primarily for all track gauges, around 2,280 locomotives operated, bearing ownership marks of SDŽ, MAV, JŽ, KPEV, SHS, PV, MD, BHLB, R.U., R.L., K.K.st.B, K.K.M.M., and others. With this booklet, all locomotives of all gauges received a unique ownership mark JDŽ (in Cyrillic and Latin script, separated by a hyphen).
At the beginning of the 1960s, a numbering system for diesel and electric locomotives on JŽ was introduced, based on a coding designation using a three-part series identifier.
