Train schedule for the needs of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games

We are publishing the train schedule for the needs of the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, 1984. The booklet was printed by the organization “Olimpik Turs” from Sarajevo with the assistance of the General Directorate of ŽTP Sarajevo. From the contents, you can see the train timetable and the organization of visits to the competition sites, hotel reservations, and currency exchange services.

The schedule for special trains is valid from February 1 to March 1, 1984. Trains heading to Sarajevo will depart from Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Maribor, Doboj, Ploče (former Kardeljevo), and Mostar, and vice versa.

For passenger transport purposes, ŽTO Sarajevo engaged special new trains of the electric multiple unit type produced by the MÁVAG Company from Budapest under the name “Olimpik Ekspres,” and traditional train sets painted in red and white under the name “Bosna Ekspres,” which were manufactured and equipped in domestic factories of the former Yugoslavia.

Similarly, due to the expected visits of foreign travelers, the Sarajevo Directorate of ŽTO already in 1982 employed about 50 high school students as train conductors assistants (one of whom is the author of these lines), on the condition that they know one of the foreign languages. Additionally, at larger stations, they hired and engaged persons who had completed studies in a foreign language for passenger information services.

You can also see the competition schedules confirmed at the 86th IOC Session, March 1983, in New Delhi.
