Srećko Ignjatović, from Semizovac near Sarajevo, is a man whose life and professional story are inseparably connected to the railway. He spent more than 40 years working in the railway sector, from 1978 to 2018. Although he did not have the opportunity to study at a university, his love for the history of railways in Bosnia and Herzegovina has compensated for formal education through decades of independent research, collecting materials, and fieldwork.
His interest in the history of railway transport began in 1996, when he started systematically collecting books, old photographs, documents, and technical drawings. Over time, this grew into a life calling, and the result of this work is now summarized on the website vremeplov.ba — a kind of digital museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s railway past.
Srećko has specialized in researching industrial, forest, and mining railways that played a key role in the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially during the Austro-Hungarian period and the following decades. His work has been recognized not only by railway enthusiasts in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also by researchers and enthusiasts across Europe. Without any institutional support, Srećko has built one of the most detailed digital archives about railways in the region.
