Tunnels on the Narrow Gauge Railway Uskoplje – Dubrovnik, 1955

We are publishing sketches of tunnels along the narrow gauge line Uskoplje – Dubrovnik from 1955 as a rare document from our archive.

During the review of the archival material, we observed the following data: The total number of tunnels is 7, all tunnels have heights ranging from 4.35 to 4.51 meters. The longest tunnel is number 5 (Brgat – Šumet), measuring 274.25 meters, and the shortest is tunnel number 4 (Brgat – Šumet), at 8.09 meters. The greatest incline is on the Uskoplje – Brgat section, with a gradient of 26.7 ‰.

On the construction of the railway, history:

The narrow-gauge railway line Gabela – Hum – Uskoplje – Dubrovnik was put into operation on July 16 and 17, 1901. The length of the Uskoplje – Dubrovnik route is 16.5 km. The railway service was discontinued on May 30, 1976.
