We are publishing the longitudinal profile of the standard gauge railway line Sarajevo – Ploče. Additionally, we are attaching the layout plan of the railway, all from the archival material of this portal in the edition of ZJŽ, Institute for Planning and Construction Supervision, titled “Reconstruction of the Sarajevo – Ploče Railway,” Belgrade, 1962. The longitudinal profile of the track shows the ascents and descents, elevation levels, individual distances, and station stops. Sketches of the layout plan for the future standard gauge railway (reconstruction of the narrow gauge) have been mapped.

From history: Based on the attached sketches of the longitudinal profile of the Sarajevo – Ploče railway, the line extends from km 0+000 to km 194+631. For comparison, the narrow gauge track from Sarajevo to Metković (1891) was 177 km +64, and from Metković to Ploče (1942) was 21 km +800, totaling 199 km +440. The narrow gauge track from Metković to Sarajevo was built in stages: Metković – Mostar in public service starting May 14, 1885; Mostar – Ostrožac from August 22, 1888; Ostrožac – Konjic from November 10, 1889; and Konjic – Sarajevo from August 1, 1891. The route of the narrow gauge Sarajevo – Ploče line was definitively discontinued on the day the standard gauge railway was put into public service along the entire route, that is, November 26, 1966.
