Arnold Jung Locomotive Factory is a manufacturer of steam locomotives, especially lightweight railway locomotives, located in Kirchen (Sieg), Germany. The company was founded on February 13, 1885, as Junger & Staimer OHG, namely Arnold Jung and Christian Staimer. Two years after Arnold Jung’s death, in 1913, it was renamed Arnold Jung Locomotive Factory G.m.b.H. Jungenthal. In 1976, locomotive production ceased in favor of other products, such as machine tools, cranes, bridge consoles, and the like. On September 30, 1993, production came to an end and the factory was closed. However, the young Jungenthal GmbH persisted as “Junge Wehrtechnik GmbH,” and in the open space of the factory, next to the museum locomotives, today is a trading and food sales center. Over the past hundred years, the GmbH has produced more than 12,800 locomotives, including slightly more than 1,000 compressed air-powered mining locomotives, 650 electric locomotives, and 4,600 steam locomotives. The largest number falls on diesel locomotives, with nearly 6,500 units produced. The last locomotive was delivered in May 1987, with serial number 14286. Arnold Jung has been a continuous supplier since 1897 for the Prussian State Railway, and on the field, steam locomotives were called “Prussian type” T3; G8,1; G8,2; G8,2, and 9,3. This is followed by series of engine tanks 64 and 80, and series 41 for the German State Railways, Deutsche Staatsbahnen. During World War II, for the Deutsche Bahn (DB), series 23, 50, and 52 were produced. However, most of the delivered vehicles went to private and industrial railways domestically and abroad. Machines with different gauge widths and wheel arrangements were supplied, not only to Europe but also to North and South America, Africa, and Indonesia. On this occasion, I am partially publishing a rare script-catalog (in my possession) of the steam locomotives of Arnold Jung Locomotive Factory G.m.b.H. Jungenthal, printed in 1940.
